The Beebe Family owned and operated one of the earliest ski areas in North America: Temple Mountain Ski Area in Peterborough and Temple, New Hampshire. Three generations of Beebes were involved in Temple’s “family business” – an enterprise lasting almost fifty years.Charlie and Lucie Beebe, true ski pioneers, purchased land in 1936 and created the Temple Mountain Ski Area. Their son Mike took over operations in 1965 and with the help of his wife and daughters, operated Temple Mountain until the spring of ’84.From the early days of rope tows, wooden skis with “bear-trap” bindings, simple lodges and even simpler amenities, the Beebe Family shared their passion for skiing and their love of nature with family, friends and total strangers. Skiers came from miles around to enjoy both the sport and the Beebe hospitality.In the midst of the developing ski industry, Mike and his family witnessed dramatic changes in ski equipment, ski lifts and ski terrain, all from the vantage point of their beloved Temple Mountain.
